“Take care of your customers and employees first, and growth and profits will follow.”
If you’ve followed this blog for long, you’ve read those words before. They make up the simple business philosophy of our founder, Jack Taylor. And for more than 55 years we’ve managed our company responsibly and sustainably to make a positive impact on our industry and the communities where we operate. I’m pleased to tell you that, recently, we’ve won some welcome recognition for those efforts.
AkzoNobel selected us as a 2012 FIT Sustainability Award recipient, noting our Automated Rental Management System (ARMS) automotive suite of products. ARMS helps collision repair centers streamline communications with insurance companies to eliminate needless waiting when a customer’s car is being repaired. Often this means that customers rent from us for fewer days. Bad for business, right? Wrong. Getting folks back into their own cars quicker creates satisfied customers who’ll keep coming back and who’ll refer others to us. It’s one more example of how we deliver value today in ways that help sustain our business over the long haul.
Enterprise has also been recognized as an inaugural winner of the Project ICARUS Sustainability Gold Medal. This honor, bestowed by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Foundation, recognizes travel industry organizations that actively integrate sustainability into how they manage their businesses. As one of the 10 largest companies in the travel industry, our business has a significant impact on the world’s transportation ecosystem. And we’re working hard to keep our business aligned with the evolving needs of consumers and provide the mobility solutions they need.
It’s quite interesting that these two awards span the history of our company, from one of our oldest lines of business – insurance replacement rentals – to the growing role we play today in the global and domestic travel market. That’s compelling evidence that sustainability is a serious companywide commitment that cuts across all our businesses. And it’s very gratifying indeed to see that commitment gain recognition among our key stakeholders.
