Empowering Our Customers:
Optional Carbon Offset Program

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car offer customers the opportunity to benefit the environment by offsetting the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions generated by an average rental car operating in our fleet. By opting in to pay $1.25 per rental, customers will fund certified offset projects that work to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. This cost is based on the average CO2 emissions generated by a rental car operating in our fleet. Our charitable foundation will match customer contributions dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $1 million. Through this program we have joined with our partner, TerraPass, to enable our customers to make an easy choice to help benefit the environment.

For every 100,000 customers who choose to take part in this program, this effort will offset more than 30 million pounds — or 13,500 metric tons — of CO2.

Program results for the first year

In the carbon offset program’s first year, approximately 175,000 customers opted to participate, generating $220,000 for certified offset projects. Coupled with the equal match by Enterprise’s charitable arm, the effort has generated nearly $440,000 that will be directed to offset projects. The overall impact: 42,000 metric tons of carbon have been offset, which based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, is equivalent to saving 4.8 million gallons of gasoline and 98,000 barrels of oil.
